My new web stats service shows me where all my hits are coming from. Of the 500 most recent hits, 499 came from six continents. One came from the middle of the ocean.
That hit came from the Army and Air Force Post Office (APO), just south of The Gold Coast of Africa. Here’s the screen shot:
At first, I speculated that latitude zero, longitude zero had been somebody’s idea of a central location from which to distribute mail to our globe-spanning military. But after thinking about it a little harder, I settled on a much more plausible explanation: Back when Congress was fighting over where to locate it, zero-zero was probably the only compromise they could agree on.
